Welcome New Si. Officers To Whangurei

To welcome its new commander, Major L. Jones, and his wife, to Whangarei. the Whangarei Salvation Army Corps held a special service last night

Major Jones, who was formerly in charge of the Opotiki corps, has been associated with many branches of the Salvation Army, from its southernmost outpost (Invercargill) to his new appointment here in Whangarei, which is the northernmost branch. Welcomes were extended to the Major by the leaders of the various organisations attached to the corps. On behalf of the women of the Salvation Army, Mrs Philpott especially welcomed Mrs Jones', who would be taking the leadership of the Women's Home League. FROM OTHER CHURCHES Mr J. Crawford and the Rev. Stephen Clark, of the Congregational Church, welcomed Major Jones on behalf of the ministers’ fraternity, and expressed their desire that he should cooperate with the other ministers in Whangarei in order to extend their work in the North. Welcoming the Major on behalf of the Methodist Church the Rev. G. E. Brown staled that there was plenty cf room for improvement and progress in and about Whangarei. Mrs Jones said they had come 1o work for the extension of the Salvation Army jfi the North. What it really needed to press ahead was 100 per cent cooperation. Major Jones, in his reply, related some of his past experiences in the Salvation Army and of how his transfer to Whangarei originated. The evening was interspersed with singing and items from the band.
