LOSS
HAMILTON.— Over 100 sheep, part of a flock from H&wke’s Bay which was being driven from Putaruru to Cambridge, fell into the Karapiro Lake and were drowned. It is estimated that 350 fell into the lake, and of these 106 were drowned. Many were rescued by the crew of a Public Works Department launch, which came on the scene early. Several truck drivers assisted the’drover and thfe crew of the launch td drag the sheep ashore.—(Sp.)
