Democrats May Sponsor Mac Arthur

NEW YORK, Wed.—General MacArthur is mentioned tonight not only as a Presidential candidate, but also as a possible opponent to Mr Truman for the Democratic Party’s nomination.

The Mayor of Boston (Mr J. M. Curley), who is a former Democratic Governor of Massachussets and a member of the Democratic National Committee, said General MacArthur’s name would be presented to the Democratic National Convention.

General MacArthur’s decision to accept nomination if offered followed the insertion of his name in the Wisconsin Republican Party’s list, but he did not specify allegiance to either party. In Tokio today General MacArthur announced that he would not discuss politics with correspondents. He said the Allied occupation of Japan would not change in the slightest as a result of his entry into the American political campaign.
