Mr S. S. Dean Not To Be Candidate
WELLINGTON, Thu. (Sp.).—ln accordance with the intention he announced at the last annual meeting of t'ue New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr S. S. Dean, the chairman since 1922 of the management committee of the union will not be a candidate for reelection to the position at the forthcoming annual meeting on May 5. He has yet to give a decision on the request of several provincial unions that he be a candidate for election to the council of the union at the annual meeting. Mr Dean is due to retire within the next year from his position as general manager for New Zealand of the South British Insurance Company. BOOK PLANNED One of his plans for retirement is to put into shape a great deal of material which he has collected during his long association with rugby and he in tends to write a book on his exper-, ienccs in the game. ■
i Mr Dean was first elected to the management in 1919. He was appointed manager of the New Zealand team which toured Australia in 1922 and in 192-1-25 he was manager of the All Black team, the ‘Tnvincibles," during the tour of Great Britain and France. In 1935 while the All Blacks were on tour in Great Britain he travelled with the team for a time, and attended the Imperial Rugby conference in London. Mr Dean’s name has been mentioned j for the position of manager of the All | Black team to visit South Africa next ' year. He said yesterday that he had | not given the idea consideration. j
