WANGANUI. A simple yet daring attempt at robbery was foiled in Marton early yesterday afternoon by the town clerk (Mr C. C. McDonald). The Borough Council staff had gone to lunch and Mr McDonald, who had been temporarily er j" gaged in the council room, moved into the adjoining public office, where in; sa\'h a sT *an about to leave carrying a money-bag. He closed the door, locked it and went to summon the police. While he was away the intruder, who was a stranger to the town clerk, managed to escape, but left behind the bag. which was reported to contain about £SO. He has not yet been found bv the police.
