Visitors from as far away as Auckland were there, including a number of old members and former presidents. All were welcomed by Mrs Walker and the unveiling ceremony was performed by the Mayoress (Mrs W. .Jones). EXTENSION OF LAWNS Mi'S Jones congratulated the club on the splendid facilities it had made available to its members. The progressive spirit was reflected in the recent extension of the lawns, which were situated in most beautiful surroundings. Mrs Jones then unveiled the board containing the long list of club presidents and referred to the service they had given to the club. Mrs A. M. Baigent (Auckland) and Mrs K. Radcliffe, both former presidents, also spoke.
Mi's Baigent expressed pleasure at the number of younger people who were taking an interest in the game hut felt that throughout New Zealand thcie was a need for more publicity for what was one of the most scientific outdoor sports. Marshall; 1940-47. Mrs M. E. Walker. COMPETITIONS The board was presented to the club bv Mr J- Culforth. Mr J W. Bissetl did the polishing. A golf croquet competition was won by Mrs Thorne from Mrs Georgesou. Miss Annett win the consolation prize. Mrs Kemp won the competition for the most touchers.

Reed, who was runner-up in the Auckland tournament for first and second-year women bowlers. The tournament was won by Mrs A. Foote, a former Whangarei girl. The Whangarei club will have a fourth lawn in use next season. This was sown a few days ago and will be ready by next summer, j In keeping with the expansion of membership, improvements have been ■ made to the pavilion. On April 7. the club is organising a monster mixed bowling tournament to close the women’s bowling season. The tourney will be held on the croquet lawns and half the proceeds are to be devoted to the Food for Britain Funds. The remainder will go to the croquet club for the purchase of trophies , and other necessities.
