Consider Drivers’ Dirt Money Claim
The claim by Whangarei members of the Drivers' Union for a payment of 2. (> an hour dirt money, for drivers engaged in carting fertiliser from the Cape York, was considered in Whangarei today. The Auckland conciliation commissioner (Mr C. L. Hunter) with Messrs L. Sirl and A. C. Pryde (representing the Whangarei branch of the Road Transport Alliance) and R. N. Ualpm and S. Hawkins (representing the union) met as a disputes commission under the disputes clause of the Drivers’ award. Mr A. Briscoe Moore was present as farmers’ representative. Discussions were taken in committee, the Press being excluded.
Two hours after the committee mot it was announced that decision had been reserved and would not be announced for some days. No statement of what had transpired was available.
