World Heading To War -de Valera
NEW YORK, Tue.—He believed the world was heading for another war. said Mr de Valera, former Premier of Eire, when he arrived at New York today for a month's tour of the United States.
“I am pessimistic about *the future of the United Nations,” he said. “It cannot succeed unless there is a change of heart by certain powers.” Mr de Valera refused to say whether Eire would again be neutral. Reports from Dublin say it is believed that Mr de Valera will asK American politicians to bring pressure to bear upon Britain to end the partition of Ireland.
Belfast reports state that the Government of Northern Ireland may shortly go to the country in order to demonstrate to the American people the other side of the partition question. Indices Attitude
DELHI, Tue.—Speaking in the Legislative Assembly today the Prime Minister of India (Mr Nehru) said India's relations with the British Commonwealth had yet to be decided, but one thing was certain, namely, that India would be “a completely independent and sovereign republic or commonwealth."
This, he said, did not mean that India should not associate closely with particular countries, but India -must first concern itself with internal affairs. The less it interfered in international conflicts the better, but ii its own interests were involved it .might be forced to side with the great powers, even with imperial powers
