Full Inquiry into Meat Trade
DUNEDIN, Wed. (P.A.).—The New Zealand Master Butchers' Federation received a telegram this morning from the Minister of Industries and Commerce, in which he said that Cabinet was meeting today, and would consider his recommendation that an open public inquiry be held by a commission or tribunal into all aspects of the domestic meat trade in the Dominion. There was some discussion on the meaning of the terms “commission and "tribunal” used in the minister’s telegram, and the federation decided to ask the minister by telegram that a full inquiry be carried out by a properly constituted commission. A later message says Cabinet decided to appoint a commission.
Mr Nordmeyer said the personnel and terms of reference of the commission would be announced later.
