Fat Lamb Killings Record This Week
AUCKLAND. Thur. (Sp.i—On Tuesday of this week a record total was attained in the fat lamb killings at three works of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company.
The figure for the Horotiu, Southdown and Moerewa works was 22.280. At Horotiu the tally was 11.11'. which is the highest yet •■ecorded extra slaughtermen normally employed in the beef and pork sections being available for work in the mutton section. Another works record was broken yesterday at Southdown when 81142 lambs were killed in the day.
The daily average at these works ranges from 7500 to 8000. but it is hoped to maintain the daily tally at over 8000. Killing of fat lambs at all three works will continue for the next fortnight. A change will then be made to sheep killing. FEILBING DISPUTE Because of a dispute concerning the handling of pigs, killing was suspended at the Feilding freezing works on Tuesday and throughout yesterday. Several thousand lambs which had been drafted bad to be retained on the farms yesterday. The dispute has been settled and the men are resuming work this morning.
