Southdown Makes 900Gns
MASTERTON, Thu. (P.A.) —A world ifecord price of 900gns for a stud Southdown ram was a sensation at the opening of the Wairarapa stud breeders annual ram fair at Solway today. Opening at 300gns, the bidding rose steeply for R. M. Perry’s Kohatu 107/46, a beautifully even ram. The first bid was by Dalgety’s and Co of Palmerston North, as agents. 825GNS YESTERDAY The then record price for 825 guineas was paid by Mr J. Bartlett, of Manganoho, for a New Zealand-bred stud Southdown ram, at the second day of the Manawatu and West Coast sheep sale at Feilding yesterday. Except for imported rams, this price had never been exceeded in New Zealand, and possibly not Australia. 5030gns were paid for the first eight rams to pe offered at the sale, an average of 628gns.
