Stationmaster At Whangarei Retires

Mr D. R. £>. Munro, who retired from the position of stationmaster at Whangarei on Monday, was the guest, with Mrs Munro, at a farewell function heid in the Warrington studios last night. Railway employees and friends who were present spent an enjoyable evening dancing.

The acting-stationmaster (Mr J. W. Crawford), in presenting the retiring stationmaster with a crystal wine set, referred to the popularity of Mr Munro, and offered congratulations on his having completed 40 years’ service with the department.

After relating several incidents in Mr' Munro’s career, Mr Crawford, on behalf of the staff, wished Mr Munro long life and good health to enjoy his retirement. APPRECIATION The acting assistant-district traffic manager at Auckland (Mr J. S. Roberts) thanked Mr Munro for the service he had given the department. Replying, Mr Munro thanked the members of his staff for their cooperation over the 20 months during which he had held his appointment in Whangarei, and spoke of the many friendships he had made since he had been in the town.

He said that many pleasant memories would remain with him in his retirement. SUCCESSOR’S' ARRIVAL Apologies were received from the district traffic manager at Auckland (Mr R. Boswell), the- assistant district traffic manager (Mr W. H. Walmsley), the locomotive foreman (Mr King), and the inspector of permanent way (Mr Heads), who were prevented by pressure of business from attending the function. During the evening solo dances were given by Mrs R. L. Thornton, of the Warrington studios. The music was supplied by Mr ,R. Goodison, and Mr J. E. Williams was M.C. Mr and Mrs Munro left by express for the south today for Paraparanmu, where they will make their home. Mr W. C. M. Cameron, who is to succeed Mr Munro as stationmaster at Whangarei, is expected to arrive on Friday, and will take up his duties early next week. Paralysis . . .
