Racehorse Shannon Changes Hands
LOS ANGELES, Tue. (11.30 a.m.)— Mr Neil McCarthy, a Los Angeles lawyer, announced he had “closed a deal” with Mr W. J. Smith to purchase the racehorse Shannon. The price is not disclosed. Mr McCarthy said he had bought Shannon for himself and the horse would race undgr his colours. He added that he was “absolutely certain” the American Jockey Club would rule in favour of Shannon's registration in the stud book, but declined to say whether the sale contract contained any proviso to operate in the event of an adverse ruling. No date has yet been fixed for Shannon’s first start at Santa Anita, where he is now in training, but he is to be given an easier race before the SIOO,OOO Santa Anita Handicap on February 28, for which he has been entered.
, Shannon, sold for a record Australian price to the film magnate, Mr B. Meyer, was first refused and then granted a license to race in America. Owing to an alleged fault in his pedigree, his name has been withheld from the stud book.
