Japan Occupation 'Most Successful'
MELBOURNE, Tue.—The Allied occupation of Japan was probably the most successful occupation in history, said the Commander-in-Chief of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan (Lieutenant-General K. C. Robertson), who is visiting Australia for consultations with the Federal Government.
“There are no dead men being fished out of canals in Japan.” he said. “There are in Germany and other parts of Europe.” Today the Japanese were the bestdisciplined people in the world. He would not describe them as docile, but they were carrying out whatever was ordered. Praising the efficiency of the British Commonwealth Force, he said that, in a country where cholera cases were treated in tens of thousands, there had not been one case among the troops.
