Actors' Equity Has No Dispute With Kiwi Party
SYDNEY, Tue. (11.30 a.m.). —Attempts to involve the Kiwi Concert Party, which is a revue composed entirely of New Zealand ex-servicemen, in a dispute between the Actors and Announcers’ Equity and theatre managements have failed.
The Actors’ Equity is objecting to the appearance of imported shows which displace Australian actors. Under" the equity’s quota arrangements. however, the New Zealanders are placed on the same footing as Australians because of the nearness of the two countries. The secretary of the Actors’ Equity (Mr H. Alexander) slates iff a letter
to the Sydney Herald that for several years an average of 30 Australian artists has been employed continually in New Zealand. Until recently there were three full Australian companies playing in New Zealand, with a fourth preparing to depart. New Zealand theatres were, for all practical purposes, closed, to New Zealanders.
