Dobson Miners Revert To Bhr Day

GREYMOUTH, Tue. (P.A.)—After taking unilateral action last week in regard to the seven-hour day bank to bank, the Dobson state coal miners yesterday reversed their decision. At a stopwork meeting they decided to discontinue the seven-hour shift and to remain in the mine yesterday until 4 p.m., the normal knock-off time.

Wallsend was yesterday the only mine on the West Coast working a seven-hour shift. The Wallsend miners decided last week to adopt the same policy as the Dobson men, but did not meet before commencing work yesterday morning.

No official explanation has been given in respect of the original decision taken at Dobson,or regarding the change yesterday. It appears likely, however, that it is connected with the request of the miners’ national organisation that the seven-hour day should commence on April 1. The request has already been acceded to by the Runanga district miners.
