Kaitaia Picnic Race Meeting To Proceed

KAITAIA, Mon. (Sp.)—Decision to proceed with arrangements for the second annual picnic race meeting at Kaitaia on Saturday, January 31, was reached by a meeting of the Kaitaia and County Sports Club on Friday night.

This is to keep faith with the public and owners, despite the infantile paralysis epidemic, which has not yet struck the Far North.

Nominations close with the secretary (Mr J. Drummond i next Thursday, January 15, and weights should be available by the following Monday or Tuesday.

Children under 16 years of age will not be admitted to the course or grounds. Following alteration to other clubs’ arrangements, Kaitaia’s meeting will be the first of the northern picnic circuit this year. At Dargaville, the Northern Wairoa club will hold its meeting on the following Saturday. February 7, while the Kaikohe event will take place on February 28. Horses from throughout Northland participated in last year’s meeting at Kaitaia. and the club is confident this support will be repeated. Financially last year’s meeting was a big' success and proceeds were devoted to ex-servidemen’s organisations.

This year it is intended to donate portion of the net profits to the St John Ambulance Brigade and the Kaitaia Volunteer Fire Brigade. The meeting will again be held on private property two and a half miles south of Kaitaia, where ideal surroundings are available.

Prize money and trophies total £l5O in value, and this year an increased number of local and district mounts arc in work.
