Drastic Power Cuts Are Not Warranted
WELLINGTON, Sat.. (P.A.).—The power position in the North Island did not warrant drastic cuts, the general manager of the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr F. T. M. Kissel) said yesterday. The position in the South Island was very good. The water storage position was at present fairly satisfactory, about the same as at the same time last year, and considerably better than at the corresponding date in 1945. Mr Kissel explained that the increases in power allocations to power boards this year would not exhaust the generating capacity of the North Island provided normal weather prevailed. •
