Invercargill Wool Firm

' INVERCARGILL, Sat. (P.A.). - I Prices satisfactory to growers were I realised at the l’ust main Invercargill ! wool sale of the season. ’ Crossbred wools and pieces and I bellies were firm on Dunedin prices. j‘ Crossbred woolly hogget wools ; showed a considerable rise on previous ! ruling prices and Southdown wools I also sold particularly well. The top price for Southdowns was | 43d. At the same sale last year South- ; downs made to 27d. ! Generally speaking, the wool was bright, but it lacked style and length. , Some of the high prices secured were paid because of the good colour of the wool, which made it most suitable for scouring. A big proportion of the woolly hoggets were disappointing, tenderness being in evidence in most cases, although the wool was fine in quality. Bearing in mind the quality of the fleece wool, necks, bellies and pieces were particularly good, showing plenty of quality and style. OFFICIAL REPORT The official report states competition was well spread and bidding thoroughout was fairly keen. Local mills were most active in types suitable for their trade. Necks, pieces and bellies were purchased mainly by Continental buyers. Bradford competition was more noticeable in the crossbred section. Hogget wools fully realised prices firm on recent sales. The offering comprised 25,000 bales of new season's greasy wool, with a small offering of slipe wool. A feature of the sale was the complete absence of passings to the Joint Organisation.
