Stole (Plans Far Paper industry

WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.)—There had been several reports published recently about the Government’s intention of establishing extensive pulp and paper-making plant in the RotoruaTaupo area said the Commissioner of State Forests (Mr Skinner) today. These reports had spared nothing in detail and far outstripped any concrete plans for either the site of the mill or the equipment which might be used, he said. The Government had been considering establishing an industry to utilise the resources of the Kaingaroa State Forest. Paper-making trials, using New Zealand-grown insignis pine had been satisfactory, but such a huge in 'ertaking could not be entered <nto without exhaustive preliminary investigation. The Government was trying to secure the services of an overseas con- j sultant to prepare an independent re- j port, on which future developments were largely dependant. It was unlikely that any decision I would be made earlier than the lat-j ter half of this year.
