Indian Troops Counter-Attack
NEW DELHI, Thu. (10 a.m.) .—lndian Army troops counter-attacked in the Naoshera area, where several thousand armed and uniformed raiders attacked last Monday, says Reuters. The Defence Ministry claimed that the Indian Army captured some hills after bitter fighting. The raiders had been reinforced during the night with 50 vehicles, which aircraft strafed, destroying 17 and damaging 8. The Ministry added that Indian troops inflicted heavy casualties. The fighting continues.
The Prime Minister of Sind (Ayub Khuro) announced that casualties during communal rioting in the past 48 hours, following the massacre of 64 Sikhs in a temple, as 122 killed (including 61 Sikhs) and 200 injured.
Rioting broke out afresh today when some Sikhs arrived from Sind. A mob'’surrounded a Sikh temple, fought off the police guards, killed some Sikhs, then looted Hindu houses and shops.
