Maori, Not Native, Department Now
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.).—The change in the name of the Native Department to the Maori Department, made by the Maori Purposes Act passed during the last session of Parliament, is followed by two gazette notices published last night. The first i-ecoi’ds the resignation of Mr Fraser as Native Minister and the second confirms his appointment as Minister of Maori Affairs.
Twenty Maori tribal districts, all in the North Island, are designated in another part of the Gazette, and still another notice sets out the boundaries of a large number cf tribal committee areas.
