Britain MUST Earn More Dollars In 1948

LONDON, Wed. (10 a.m.) —Britain’s foremost object in 1948 was to earn more dollars, said the Chancellor of the Exchequei (Sir Stafford Cripps), addressing a Press conference today. It seemed unlikely that exports in 1947 had earned more than £190,000,000 worth of dollars, but 1948 exports must earn at least half as much again—even then there would be a £300,000,000 deficit in dollars at the end of 1948.
