Cup Appeal Adjourned

AUCKLAND, Wecr. CSp.).—At the request of Mr J. H. Marshall, owner of Howe, the Auckland District Racing Committee yesterday granted an adjournment of the appeal against the decision of the stewards of the Auckland Racing Club in altering the judge’s placings in the Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on December 26. Howe won by a neck from Balgowan, with King’s Ransom a nose away third. After an inquiry into alleged interference by the winner, the stewards placed Balgowan first, King’s Ransom second and Howe third.

The appeal will be heard at Auckland on February 3. The appeal by the Jockey J. Winder against his suspension of two months by the stewards of the Auckland Racing Club on December 29, following the running of-, the King’s Plate at Ellerslie, was dismissed by the Auckland District Committee yesterday. Winder rode Sleepy Fox, who finished third to Majesty and Exeter and, as the result of an inquiry into alleged interference by Sleepy Fox with Majesty and Great Trek at the five-fur-long post, Winder was suspended.

Howe's Next- Race—

Wellington Cyp

WELLINGTON, Wed. (Sp.)—Howe and Distinction have returned to Trentham from Auckland. Howe will have his next race in the Wellington Cup. He has come through his hard Ellerslie campaign remarkably well, but is to be given a few days in which to freshen up. HCS comes to hand quickly and should be in good order for his engagements at the Wellington meeting. Distinction maintained his consistent record at Ellerslie, recording a first, a second and a third, and he has not been out of a place in his last 10 starts. He has won the Hawke’s Bay Epsom Hack Handicap, the Hawke’s Bay Guineas, and the Goodwood Handicap at Auckland. Distinction has been second in the Wellington Guineas, the New Zealand Derby and the Great Northern Derby. His stake earnings this season amount to £3547/15/-. He is to contest the Gloaming Stakes on the first day of the Wellington meeeting.

All were admitted to the Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs.
