Missing Mullet Boat F ound, Crew Safe
THE crew of the missing 16ft mullet boat Yvonne Celeste were picked up this morning at the Hen and Chickens islands by Mr Matheson, of Leigh, and towed into Taurikura. They were in good health, but were glad to get away from the uncomfortable anchorage.
The Yvonne Celeste left Leigh on Thursday afternoon bound for Mangawai. and the Hen and Chickens Islands. She was seen attempting to cross the Mangawai bar, but could not cope with the heavy easterly swell that was running and was seen to square away and head for the Hen and Chickens Islands.
E'ears were entertaiped for the safety of the boat’s crew, Messrs J. Torkingion, c f Leigh, and R. Brewester, of Papatoetoe. They were missing for seven days and no information was received of their whereabouts in spite of widespread inquiries. At noon today a police party from Whangarei left in Mr A. J. Wilkinson's 42ft launch Aumoe to search in the vicinity of the Hen and Chickens.
