Eggless Thursdays Dropped In U.S.
WASHINGTON, Mon. GO a.m.)—The Government announced today that eggless Thursdays would be dropped from the food conservation programme after this week, because of the seasonal increase in production. The director of the programme (Mr James Stillwell) stated that meatless Tuesdays would continue, because meat was leading tire inflationary spiral in food prices. However. American hotel and restaurant associations have recommended that meatless Tuesdays be no longer observed because of the lack of public cooperation and non-compliance by smaller restaurants. The conservation programme was instituted after an appeal by President Truman on October 5 to save 100,000.900 bushels of grain for Europe. New York, Chicago and Philadelphia ! restauranteurs later announced that [ they were dropping meatless Tuesdays.
