16Ft Yacht Overdue

Missing since Thursday afternoon, the 16ft mullet boat Yvonne Celeste, 523. is overdue and the police are inquiring into her whereabouts. She left Leigh on Thursday after-* noon, bound for Mangawai and the Hen and Chickens Islands. She carried a crew of two (Messrs I. Torkington. of Leigh, and R. Brewester, of Papatoetoe). A small sailing boat was seen to attempt the crossing of the Mangawai bar late on Thursday, but could not cope with the heavy easterly swell, which makes the Mangawai bar impassable with the wind on shore. She then squared away towards the Hen and Chickens. PLANE LOOK-OUT

The National Airways plane from the North was asked to search in the vicinity of the Hen and Chickens Islands and the coast, but nothing has been reported.

The Northern Company's m.v. Ranginui reports that there is still a lazy easterly swell on the coast, hut it is not breaking. The 26ft mullet boat Corona, which is the last of the Auckland boats to make the run up the coast from Leigh since the easterly weather, attempted to run into Mangawai under jib and staysail, but was forced to hoist the mainsail and run for the shelter of the Whangarei Heads.
