Organised Tour Of North By Youth Party
KAITAIA, Tue. (Sp.)— Ranging in age from 18 years upwards, a party of 21 young people has spent the Christmas and New Year holidays on a Northland tour organised by the Youth Travel Association. ’ _ . . The majority were from Auckland, with some from Wellington and other centres. For many it was their first Northland visit. “We are having the time of our lives,’’ members said at Kaitaia on Saturday evening.

Auckland, the party left | Auckland by special bus on Saturday, j December 27. j After lunch at Whangarei they ! reached Russell in time for the cvenj ing meal and were billeted at the school. I The next nve oavs were spent in the j Bay of Islands under glorious weather j conditions, which proved ideal for j swimming at Long Beach and launch excursions, including visits to Waitangi Falls, the Treaty House and the famous "cream trip." Last Friday the tourists travelled by launch to Paihia and joined their bus for the journey further north. I This was by way of Kerikcri and j Whangaroa, with a climb to the top of ISt Paul's Dome to view Whangaroa j Harbour, and a picnic lunch at Whan- | garoa. I The journey was continued through Mangonui to Kaitaia via Cooper’s | Beach and Lake Ohia. and for both I Friday and Saturday nights the party ; was billeted at the Kaitaia primary | school. Saturday was spent on Ninety Mile j Beach, at Waipapakauri, and on Sun--1 day morning the party travelled south, reaching Opononi for lunch.
The tourists then passed through Waipoua kauri forest and were billeted at Dargaville. Yesterday was spent at Bayley’s Beach and today the party journeys back to Auckland, calling at Warkworth and Helensvillc. Cost of the tour for each member ol the party has been £l9. Meals ’were taken picnic fashion where possible and otherwise at public dining rooms. Members provided their own blankets but slept on straw palliasses supplied by the association. The party was a merry one. and in the words of Mr Lethbridge, just like one big happy family.” No untoward incidents of any Kind marred the tour’s success, although members of the party on Saturda> night staged a determined raid on Kailaia’s sunburn-lotion resources.
