22 Deaths In 2 Weeks
From Sunday. December 21 to Sunday, January 3, accidents caused the loss of 22 lives. In the same fortnight 12 months ago 12 accidental deaths occurred. Drowning accounted for 'll of the deaths. Eight persons were killed in motor accidents, . two of the victims being motor cyclists. In the first aviation accident for some years a man was killed when his plane crashed at Paraparaumu on Christmas Eve. There were two shooting fatalities, one in Hawke’s Bay and the other near Hokitika. With the exception of the last-men-tioned accident and two drownings in Canterbury .all the deaths occurred in the North Island. Nine were in the Auckland Province. Sixteen of the victims were men, four were children, one was a woman and one was a youth. '
