No Major Surprises In N.Z. Champs Today

AUCKLAND, Mon. (P.A.) —The courts were in good order, but a gusty easterly wind made playing difficult for the continuation of the New Zealand lawn tennis championships this morning. There were no major surprises in matches which finished ; before noon. The most interesting early men’s singles match was the one in which the ninth seeded player, E. D. B. Lusk (Auckland), | accounted for K. Dyer (Auckland), by three sets to one. i The national women’s champion, Miss M. Beverley (Waikato) j had no trouble in eliminating Miss A. Johnson (Auckland), 6—o, j 6—2.

Becroft (Auckland) 3—6, B—6. 6—l. Miss Be ,croft showed great determination. . Miss J. Burke, a Taranaki player, had no difficulty in beating Miss M. P. Hodges (Auckland). In his game against Dyer. Lusk was off his length in the early stages, and lost the first set. He had to fight hard to take a marathon second set 'l3—ll. Dyer lapsed into errors in the third set which Lusk look 6—l.
