State Airlines On Queensland Routes
CANBERRA. Thu. (1 p.m.)—The Federal Government has decided to establish intrastate air services in Queensland, where they will be under the control’of the State Government, but in direct competition with private airlines.
At the recent Premiers’ Conference, Queensland was the only state in favour of the Government establishing intrastate airlines.
A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives directing the Airlines Commission to commence services.
The Government-owned' Transaustralia Airlines, which showed a loss of £505,927 last financial year, operates 19 planes, linking all states and flying 20,000 route miles a day.
During the last financial year they carried 146,583 paying passengers, 1200 tons of freight and 500 tons of mail, without accident.
