LATEST FOR BUILDINGS

NEW YORK, Wed. (1 p,m,) Scientists of the Commerce Department’s technical service office at Cambridge, Massachusetts, announced today that they had invented a new building material made of stainless steel and glass, so light that it floats. The material has a core of foam glass coated with stainless steel and is one-twentieth the weight of a corresponding section of brick wall. Scientists anticipate great savings in building costs by the use of the material. The thickness of skyscraper walls could be reduced from 12in. to 4in., greatly increasing the floor area. The new substance provides 10 times better insulation against heat and cold than brick and also resists fire and corrosion better.
