FARMERS WANT MORE PETROL
NEW PLYMOUTH, Thu. (Sp.)—The present system of rationing petrol often proved inconvenient and a return to the old system of rationing by licences would be welcomed. This was stated at an executive meeting of the South Taranaki Federated Farmers yesterday. Urgent communications are to be made to the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) asking that ample supplies of petrol be made available for farming production, particularly during harvesting.
Instances were given of delay to harvesting because petrol pumps in the country were empty when petrol was required. Under the old form of petrol rationing. farmers were safeguarded by being able to buy petrol with a permit when it was urgently needed, said Mr 11. J. Finlay.
At present, however, a permit was of no use to farmers if petrol tanks were empty.
