FOL Urges
WELLINGTON. Thu. (P.A.).—The Federation of Labour has decided to urge the Labour Party to select Parliamentary candidates with a trade union background, the secretary of the federation *Mr K. McL. Baxtei) said last night. . At a meeting of the national council in'Wellington, Mr Baxter said, a proposal that trade union candidates should stand against Labour members of Parliament was rejected. A resolution was carried that affiliations should favour selection of candidates by ballot among members and should choose those with ;‘a trade union background and working class understanding/’ A request that the federation should be given representation on the inquiiy into Ballantyne’s fire in Christchurch was forwarded to the Government.
