Free Hearing Aids
AUCKLAND, Wed. (Sp.). More than 350 applications have been received for hearing aids by the Auckland Hospital Board since the announcement cf tlie introduction of the scheme.
A clinic for the free issue of hearing aids was opened by the board today in temporary premises, and appointments have been made for six of the most urgent cases to attend at various times for examination.
Following receipt of an inquiry the board sends each patient an application form, which, when filled in, is filed on expert advice in order of priority. This order is: (1) People who require hearing aids to continue their vocation; (2) children whose education is being retarded by their hearing disability: (3) women with families; (4) elderly people. Appointments are then made for patients to attend the clinic for examination as their turn arrives.
(Inquiries made in Whangarei this morning disclosed that the Whangarei Hospital Board had received advice from the Dcoartment of Health to the effect that Whangarei patients would be treated in Auckland. As yet, however, no detailed plan for the reception in Auckland of Northland patients had been worked out.)
