AUCKLAND.—SeveraI British residents who left India after disturbances began there following th e announcement of independence were passengers by the steamer J Tidewater, ■which arrived from Marseilles by way of Australia yesterday. Some of them had harrowing experiences before they could leave the country. Among these people were Mr and Ml’s J. H. Feychers, who were the only Eurdpedns on a refugee train which made a 1500-mile trip, being bombed and machinegunned en route. Several people were killed. Half of Mr Pfychers’ belonging wUre stolen during the trip.
