Three Missionaries Murdered In India
CHRISTCHURCH, Sat. (P.A,)—Advice was received yesterday by Miss Vivienne Opie, a New Zealand missionary of the Church Missionary Society, now in Christchurch on furlough, that three missionaries on the staff of the mission hospital-at Doya Bari Rangahat, 50 miles north of Calcutta, had been assassinated.
They were Dr M. Hatt. medical superintendent, Miss Percival, actingmatron, and Miss N. Law, nursing sister.
The cablegram said that on November 22 the three were shot while at dinner.
Dr Hatt and Miss Percival died instantly and Miss Law two days later.
Miss Percival was a member of the London Missionary Society, who had been lent to the Church Missionary Societv to act as matron at the hospital at Doya Bari while Miss Opie was absent.
The hospital where the assassinations took place is just inside the border of India. It contains 150 beds and treats about 800 out-patients daily.
