FIRE
NAPIER,—Eiuc destroyed the State receiving home in Lees Road, Greenmeadows, between 3 and 4 o’clockyesterday afternoon. The 10 children in the home were absent at the time on a picnic, under the charge of the sub-matron (Miss M. Allen) .
The children, who lost all their possessions other than the clothes they were wearing, are now billeted In the district.
The single-storied building burned rapidly. The Napier fire brigade was called, but all it could do was to concentrate its efforts on a near-by house which was threatened. Water was pumped from a well.—(Sb.) - CRASH
HAMlLTON.—Passengers in a motor car which collided with a train at the Peaehgrove Road railway crossing. Hamilton, on Saturday morning had a fortunate escape from serious injury.
The five occupants of the car were thrown clear. Mr Tristran John Copeland, aged 21, mill hand, Rotorua, the driver of the vehicle, was admitted to the Waikato Hospital suffering from concussion and lacerations.
His condition is not serious. The four passengers minor injuries/ The car was wrecked. * * »
