Stalin Ready To Come Half-way
LONDON, Fri.—M. Stalin is willing to meet Britain and America halfway to improve relations, said Mr K. Zilliacus, leader of the party of British Labour M.P.s, who returned from Russia today. He said M. Stalin told him: The formation of the Cominform had not changed Soviet policy, and was not an attempt to revive the Comintern. Cooperation with countries with different economic and social systems was possible. There was no reason why Britain should not develop trade with eastern Europe and retain good relations with America. PURPOSE OF COMINFORM M. Stalin said the Comintern was created when Communism started. Today Communist parties represented large sections of people in various countries. The recent declaration of nine Communist Parties meeting in Warsaw meant that the Communists in those countries wanted to work together. It would be exotic and utopian to attempt to direct such parties from a common centre, therefore there was no reason for re-establishment of the Communist International.
