Local Horses Get Into Racing Trim

The frequent spring showers are a delight to the enthusiastic gardner but, with the spring meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club only a fortnight away, they are not being regarded in quite the same spirit by local trainers. The fall last night made the track at Kensington very heavy for exercises this morning and all horses were confined to pace work. The turf was holding in parts on the outside where training was carried out but nearer the rails the grass is responding to the moisture and the course will be in splendid order for the two race days. Peter Clotworthy was out very early witn his team, which comprised Beb, Medieval Gold, Diagram and Perdition. All moved freely in their work and will be in good order for their engagements.

The three-yeai'-old colt, Master Burleigh, who makes his debut at the coming meeting, is fining down nicely and will soon be in excellent racing trim.

He was carrying a lot of condition when first brought into work but is hardening up well in the hands of J. A. Pollock.

Tho Diatomous —La France three-year-old. Pokanoa. owned by Messrs Ray Dempster and George Clotworthy and trained by Mr Clotworthy is coming along well and will be contesting the five-furlong events.

The full-brother to Dictatress had two races as a two-year-old running unplaced at Avondale. GOOD RECOVERY FROM FALL The six-year-old Benora, owned by Miss N. Smith and her brother. Mr B. Smith, of Jordan Valley, and trained by Miss Smith, is making a good recovery after his fall in a hurdle event at Paeroa on September 27.

The bruise in his shoulder is coming out and Benora looks bright and happy in his track-work.

He will probably be schooled again at the end of next week. Bred by Mr F. C. Deighton. of Marton, a cousin of the present owners, Benora was used as a hack until the Smiths acquired him and put him to jumping.

He had his first run over the sticks al the last autumn meeting in Whangarei and since then lias started twice at Avondale, and al Thames and Paeroa.

He ran into second place at Thames

Benora is by King. Lu out of an unregistered Starsircam - Husbandman marc.

No visiting horses have arrived in Whangarei yet for the spring meeting.
