Empire Dollar Talks
An Australian official participating in the Empire dollar conversion talks in London denied allegations published in some sections of the American Press that Britain and the Dominions were trying to use threatened cuts in dollar imports to influence the provision of further dollar aid for Britain. He added that it was ridiculous to suggest that the impending cuts would be sufficient to impinge heavily upon the vast, buoyant American economy. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Eire, India and Pakistan are participating in the London talks, which have entered the third week.
It is stated that dollar goods in the sterling areas may be cut by - “some hundreds of millions of dollars,-’ The talks are expected' to end next week,
British Treasury officials forecast that any agreements formulated' as a result of the talks would be of a longterm nature.
