Will Investigate Strike When Miners Return

(Received 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. THE Minister of Fuel (Mr Shinwell) conferred with members of the National Coal Board today in an attempt to obtain an early settlement of the Yorkshire coal strike. Later he conferred with leaders of the Miners’ Union and then called both sides together to discuss means of ending the strike
Mr Shinwell announced that the Miners’ Union wished to appoint three members from the Yorkshire area to investigate allegations about the Grimethorpe strike—after the men had returned to work. /
The Coal Board had agreed to provide facilities.
to work on the terms of the award, which all parties in discussions agreed must be implemented. At a Press conference later Mr Shinwell made it clear that the men would be expected to go back to work in accordance with the findings of the disputes committee, which approved the original instruction to the Grimethorpc men to work a two-foot extra stint ol coal daily.
Mr Shinwell added he hoped that all miners would return forthwith and make every effort to regain the lost ground.
The statement said a committee o£ three members of the Yorkshire Mineworkers’ Union would investigate all relevant facts after the men returned
