Employment At Kamo
A combined meeting of Kamo and Hikurangi miners commenced at Kamo at 10 a.m. this morning. The subject of discussion was the proposed transfer of Hikurangi miners to the Kamo mine.
As a result of the meeting, no coal was produced at Kamo today. In a joint statement issued this afternoon, the president of the North Auckland Miners’ Union (Mr C. Latham) and the secretary (Mr D. W. Millar) said that today’s discussion had proceeded very satisfactorily and arrangements had been completed for the employment of the Hikurangi miners at the Kamo mine as soon as possible. This could not be done until the State had taken over the Kamo mine, it was claimed, and an announcement regarding this was being sought. A telegram seeking information was to be sent to the Mines Department this afternoon.
About 130 miners were present at the meeting.
