250,660 Garments Sent To Britain
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Six thousand cases of clothing for children and adults have been prepared in New Zealand for distribution by the British Red Cross. Much of the clothing is already on its way.
The shipment contains about 250,000 garments some, such as overcoats, worth £7 each.
The average value is about £l. There was excellent cooperation by all concerned. The Government provided storage at Wellington and Auckland, the shipping companies taking the clothing free up to a maximum of 10 tons measurement.
All garments are in excellent condition and are not .just shabby clothes. Materials were required for making some of the clothes, wool being knitted into garments. Some children’s clothing were fashioned from adults.’
