Intensifying Search For Lost Plane
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. Reports from several sources have caused the search for the missing Percival monoplane to be intensified. According to independent accounts and the testimony of an RAAF officer, the plane was seen in the Mt Kosciusko area late last Tuesday. Yesterday residents reported heavy smoke signals in the Bowen Range, East Gippsland and search parties were dispatched to investigate. The report originated by a postmistress was that smoke rose after a search plane had passed over. Some searchers believe that the pilot and passenger survived the crash and were attempting to signal to the plane. The country in the vicinity is rugged and bush-covered.
