Kaitaia Juniors Beat Hikurangi

(Special> KAITAIA, This Day. Kaitaia junior footballers scored a convincing win from Hikurangi juniors by 22 points to 9 in a friendly game at Kaitaia on Saturday. This was the only local fixture oi the day. main interest being centred on Mangonui's challenge for the Harding Shield at Kaikohe, which drew a fairly large following from the Far North.

The Kaitaia boys’ win was meritorious in that Hikurangi this season has been runner-up in the Whangarei junior competition.

With the A. & P. Oval in good order the juniors provided only a small gallery with a fast exhibition in whicn play was more even than the score showed.

Hikurangi forwards dominated the tight, but .Kaitaia countered in the loose with effective break-through tactics. Both sets of backs threw the ball about willingly, the MacKenzio brothers showing most initiative among the home team, while K. Taylor was an inspiring five-eighth for the visitors.

• For Hikurangi, Middleton and Cochrane each scored tries. Kaitaia’s points came from tries by B. and R. MacKenzio. W. Hoddlo and J. Julian. K. McPherson converted two and kicked two -penalty goals, and L. Beazley converted one. Kaitaia led 9—o at half-time. Referee was Mr H. Dean, of Awar.ui.
