DISTRICT QUOTATIONS

Toe principal firms operated at the two Kamo yards where offerings were smaller than usual. Dairy cows showing quality and well forward sold well but others were dull of sale. The demand for fat and store pigs remained keen and prices were high. One extra heavy chopper realised £ll/5/-. Sows to farrow sold freely, best sorts realising to £l3.

Quotations were: Good Jersey cows, close to profit, £lO/10/- to £l2/10/-; medium sorts, September ealvers, £9 to £10; backward and interior, £7/2/0 to £B/17/0; Jersey-Shorthorn cross heifers, September ealvers, £7 to £9; Jersey cows in milk, £7/2/0 to £11; Jersey-Shorthorn cross cows, £0 to £7/2/0; yearling Jersey heifers, medium quality, £4/15/-; medium porkers, £4/15/- to £5/15/-; best stores, £4 to £4/10/-; medium stores, £3/12/to £3/19/-; slips, £3 to £3/12/ ; best weaners, £2/15/- to £3; medium. £2/8/to £2/12/-; smaller. £l/15/- to £2/2/-; choppers, to £ll/5/-; good quality sows to larrow, £ll to £l3; backward sows. £7/10/- to £9; aged and poorer sorts, £O/2/0; backward sorts, £7/10/- to £9; aged and poorer sorts, £O/2/6: forward shorn 4-tooth wethers. £l/12/-. Alfred Buckland and Sons Ltd and Walter Wakelin Ltd, reporting on the special dairy sale at Kamo, stated that average entries came forward to a fair bench of buyers.

Quotations were: Dairy cows, close to profit and average quality, £lO/10/- to £l2; backward, £6 to £B/10/-; good quality dairy heifers, close to profit, £9 to £lO/10/-; backward and small, £0 to £7/15/-; dairy cows in milk, £B/12/0 to £9/15/ ; heifers in milk. £7 to £9/10/-. At Kirikopuni. where the same firms operated, the advertised number of entries came forward to .1 representative attendance of buyers.

Quotations were: Empty 2-year Jersey heifers. £4/17/0 to £5/15/-; small crossbred yearling heifers, £3/5/-; boner cows, £3/5/- to £5/10/-; store Shorthorn cows. £6/9/-; crossbred 3-.vear steers, £7/12/0; 2-vear Jersey-Shorthorn cross steers, £5/5/-.

At Waipu, the North Auckland Farmers' Coop. Ltd reported a small yarding comprising mainly dairy and boner cattle. Dairy cows close to profit sold well and boners sold steadily at rates slightly in advance of schedule.

Quotations were: Jersey cows, £B/10/to £10; good quality Jersey heifers, £9/10/- to .£l2/10/ ; backward and small, £7/5/- to £8; backward and aged Jersey cows, £O/10/- to £7/5/-; fat Jersey cows.

£7/7/- to £7/17/-: heavv boner eov £5/12/0 to £O/7/0; light boners, £4/5/ potters, to £2/15/-.

Private sales transacted by the same firm during Ihe week included light Jut cows to £l2; 3-ycar Polled Angus bullocks at £l9; tat 4 and 5-year Polled Angus Heifers. £ls/15/-. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd advised the private sales of lines of 3 and 4-year Hereford. Polled Angus and Shorthorn steers, at £l2 to £l3. Altogether about 300 cattle were sent to the Waikato.
