Husband Was In Objectors' Comp
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. In the Supreme Court yesterday a wife whose husband spent some of the war years in a conscientious objectors’ camp sought divorce from him on the ground of separation. The petitioner was Nancy Verona Hardie, who was married to Mark Napier Hardie in December. 1941.
Petitioner said her husband, after their marriage, was put in gaol and later was sent to a conscientious objectors' camp near Rotorua. She went to Rotorua to be near him, but found she could not get work there because her husband was a conscientious objector. On April 28, 1944, he turned up at a family party they were having at Kaikohe. She told him she still wanted to live separate from him. She did not want any money from him and would rather work. He said that was the finish and she had heard nothing of him since. A decree nisi was granted.
