Monfy Confers With French Army
(Ree. 10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27. The Chief of the Imperial General Staff (Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery) flew to Paris today for talks with French Army leaders on a number of topics, including synchronisation of methods of military instruction between the British and French Armies, the possibility of an exchange of officers for instructional purposes, and the possibility of future military collaboration in Africa.
Reuters Paris correspondent reports that thousands of enthusiastic Paris-, ians in the Champs Elysees cheered and waved flags as Lord Montgomery placed a wreath on the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb in the Arc de Triomphe. Lord Montgomery, wearing battle dress and a black beret, walked round the Place d'Etoile, greeting people packed on the pavements.
They shouted “Vive Montgomery !’’ and “Vive l’Armee Britannique !” A spokesman at the British Embassy in Paris said the visit had no political significance. It was a return visit following the recent visit to London of the French Minister of .War (M. Cose Floret).
