Fruit Cases Going To Be Very Searce
(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Obtaining cases for fruit is going to give the growers a headache, said Mr A. B. dongdon, Dominion president and Auckland chairman of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, at the 31st annual meeting of the Auckland provincial council yesterday. He said that for some years there had been a shortage of cases and if it had not been for the light crop in Hawke's Bay this season serious difficulty would have been experienced in coping with the demand. Even so, Mr Congdon continued, it was not easy to obtain cases and transfers from one district to an'other were again necessary.
He thought that unless the price box-makers now received was reviewed there was a grave danger of a serious shortage of fruit cases. If prices advanced the cost should be met by stabilisation. It was hoped that an allocation from the timber controller would be made for this purpose.
